Cracking Hashes

Cracking Hashes

Hashcat

Hashcat is one of the many tools to crack hashes, we can find the ID reference of each hash in https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=example_hashes.

Dictionary Mode

Dictionary mode is when we try to crack a hash using a wordlist. The example command is the following.

hashcat -a 0 -m <id> <hash_file> <wordlist_file>

Hash IDs

These are the different hashes covered in this documentation.

We can also use the following commands to search the ID of a certain hash, but only if we know it’s type.

hashcat --help | grep -i <HASH_TYPE>
